Things To Do Near the Philadelphia Cruise Terminal

Philadelphia is one of America's most historically rich cities, and arriving a day or two early gives cruise passengers a genuine opportunity to explore. The cruise terminal is ideally positioned — the entire historic district is within walking distance or a short rideshare away.

Historic Philadelphia (Near the Pier)

Independence Hall — 520 Chestnut St. Where the Declaration of Independence and U.S. Constitution were debated and signed. Free admission (timed tickets recommended). About 1 mile from the pier.

The Liberty Bell Center — 526 Market St. The iconic symbol of American independence, displayed in a modern glass pavilion directly across from Independence Hall. Free admission.

Elfreth's Alley — 126 Elfreth's Alley. The oldest continuously inhabited residential street in America, dating to 1702. A short walk from the waterfront and cruise pier.

Betsy Ross House — 239 Arch St. Historic house associated with the maker of the first American flag. Affordable admission, great for history enthusiasts.

Penn's Landing & the Waterfront

Penn's Landing — The Delaware River waterfront adjacent to the cruise pier hosts concerts, festivals, and waterfront dining throughout the season. The Race Street Pier is a beautifully landscaped park with great views of the Benjamin Franklin Bridge.

Independence Seaport Museum — 211 S. Columbus Blvd. Maritime history museum right on the waterfront, steps from the cruise pier. Includes the USS Olympia (a historic Navy cruiser) and USS Becuna submarine — fitting for a cruise departure.

Philadelphia Museum of Art & Fairmount

Philadelphia Museum of Art — 2600 Benjamin Franklin Pkwy. World-class collection and the famous "Rocky Steps." About 15 minutes from the pier. The Rodin Museum and Barnes Foundation are nearby on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway.

Eastern State Penitentiary — 2027 Fairmount Ave. One of America's most historic — and reputedly haunted — prisons. Fascinating guided tours year-round.

South Street & Italian Market

South Street — Philadelphia's famous eclectic corridor with independent shops, restaurants, bars, and the Mural Arts program. A great evening stroll the night before your cruise.

Italian Market — 9th Street between Wharton and Tasker. America's oldest and largest open-air market, immortalized in the Rocky films. Excellent for picking up local provisions.
